Description
- tufted, erect bunchgrass sometimes has short stolons
- stems and sheaths are flat and bluish green, leaves have blunt tips and are folded
- inflorescence has seven to eighteen stout, purplish terminal spikes that turn straw yellow or black when ripe
- short awns on the triangular spikelets
- perennial, warm-season, native – 12 to 24 inches tall
- fair grazing for livestock and wildlife
